Lindsay Wills, Counselor

ABOUT ME. . .
I am passionate about empowering people to feel their feelings, process their experiences, overcome hurdles and truly LIVE their lives in abundance. An authenticity advocate and mother of two, I am a counselor, singer, speaker, teacher and writer. I am a lover of the outdoors and an essential oils enthusiast. A recent TEDx Traverse City Pitch finalist, I shared about living a courageous, compassionate, resilient and awakened life. In the winter of 2019, my writing was featured in GT Woman Magazine where I was the featured speaker. Additionally, I enjoyed speaking about my life and work in the Fulfillament series in Traverse City. In January of 2019, I directed the State Honors Choir at the Michigan Music Conference in Grand Rapids and hosted a retreat for women who were seeking to find freedom from past relationships entitled Release in February of 2020. My professional and life motto is: Summoning strength and beauty. Igniting Courage and Compassion.
ABOUT MY COUNSELING . . .
I hold my Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and received my Master of Arts degree in Counselor Education from Western Michigan University. The program is accredited through the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and related Education Programs (CACREP). Additionally, I am a Certified Grief Counseling Specialist and a Nationally Board Certified Counselor.
I enjoy working with a variety of clients, including teens and adults of all ages, with whom I offer a safe environment to share one's story and explore steps towards positive processing and change. I seek to be empathetic, personable, non-judgmental and genuine in my interactions. The primary lens I utilize in my counseling is Narrative Therapy, which explores the client's current story and assists with reframing the story in order to bring about a more positive perspective. When we are able to reframe, we are able to become empowered with new ideas, new choices and new ways of looking at our life. In addition to Narrrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems Theory is an approach that I am passionate about as I assist clients in processing multiple relational traumas. I also hold my certificate in EMDR, which offers clients the opportunity for exposure desensitization and reprocessing through rapid eye movement and the use of bi-lateral mechanisms.
I utilize a holistic, experiential approach which includes an eclectic blend of techniques and theories. Person-Centered and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy along with mindfulness, creativity, gratitude practices and self expression are additional benchmarks of my approach with clients. The work and research of Virginia Satir and Brene Brown add to my foundation as a therapist.
Counseling Goals:
It is my goal that you feel safe to express who you are and share your emotions in our sessions.
Insight and action are the two pillars of growth we will explore together.
We will explore your story and work together to reframe your story so that it moves forward in a positive, meaningful direction.
Our work will include practicing new behaviors and tweaking old behaviors while we care for ourselves.
The following quote will be a lens we will often work through: “Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing we will ever do,” Brene Brown (The Gifts of Imperfection, 2010).
